My Adventures on the Track
I got the greatest birthday present a gearhead like me could ever ask for a few months back. My best friend bought me one of those driving experiences where you get taken around a real racing track by a professional driver before going behind the wheel yourself and seeing how you can handle it. I absolutely could not wait and I booked the first slot I could find almost as soon as I’d unwrapped the gift.
Yesterday was the big day and I swear I haven’t been as stoked for anything in life as I was for this. Once I got there and signed up, goose bumps started forming. There they were, three shining and polished beasts just waiting for me to get behind the wheel and push them as far as I could take them.
I was quivering with excitement when I got behind the first one. As much as I love my cars I’ve never had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a real sports car and just let loose and go as fast as I can. I loved every second of it and it was all over far too soon. I did it all again two more times in two other cars, taking a couple of laps of the course each time and I swear the smile on my face was so wide that you could have driven a bus through it!
Nothing could prepare me for what was to come though. I thought I had handled myself pretty well on the track but then I got into the car with Ricky. Ricky was the professional track driver for the course and he told me that he was going to take me on the ride of a lifetime. He wasn’t kidding either. We whizzed around that course so fast it made my head spin. I’ve never felt so nauseous and so satisfied all at the same time.
When it was all over Ricky looked over to me and asked me if I wanted to leave my mark on the blacktop. I was still pretty dizzy at this point so all I could say was “blacktop?” “Yeah,” he replied, “The blacktop paving.” How could I refuse such an offer? I told him to let her rip and straight away my body felt like it was slammed into the side of the car as he started pulling donut after donut on the track. I don’t know if anyone reading this has been in a car that could go so fast but I recommend it to everyone. I certainly left my mark on the blacktop paving Edmonton yesterday.
